dental bridges

Unlike dentures, dental bridges are fixed in the mouth, anchored to existing, healthy teeth, creating a far more realistic and aesthetically-pleasing solution to the problem of missing teeth, as well as offering additional confidence. A bridge is usually used to replace one or two missing teeth, but can be used to replace more so long as there are a sufficient number of teeth to anchor the bridge to.

How do dental bridges work?

Like a great deal of dental technology, dental bridges have evolved dramatically over the last decade or so, creating an abundance of different options. If you think you might benefit from a bridge, it is advisable to speak to one of the dental bridges specialists at our Liverpool practice.

The more traditional dental bridges involves the 'trimming down' of one or more of the healthy teeth next to the gap created by the missing tooth. These trimmed down teeth are then capped, with the artificial tooth being anchored to the capped tooth or teeth.

The recently-developed resin-bonded dental bridges are often used to replace missing teeth at the front of the mouth. This type of dental bridge does not require the trimming down of other teeth. Instead, a 'wing' on the bridge is bonded to the surrounding healthy teeth using a strong and durable resin.

The importance of dental bridges for missing back teeth

Although people rarely need much encouragement to replace missing teeth at the front of the mouth, it is very common for people to take a more relaxed approach to missing teeth at the back of the mouth.

However, it is just as important to consider replacing these rear teeth, as the gaps left by a missing tooth can cause the remaining teeth to move around and tilt. This creates additional opportunities for a range of dental problems, including gum disease.

How much is a dental bridge likely to cost?

In general, dental bridges cost between £300 and £350 per tooth, depending upon which materials are used, but it is best to discuss your requirements with one of the dental bridges specialists at our Liverpool practice. If you are considering a bridge incorporating a number of teeth, you might want to consider our Dental Care Plan, which offers discounts and easy-payment options, amongst a whole host of other benefits.

how does a bridge fit?

The traditional bridge is fitted over your prepared teeth either side of the gap. There are some modern style of bridges, which are made from different materials which do not require preparation of the teeth, they attach adhesively to the teeth.
