The Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants are rapidly becoming a popular alternative to traditional dental prostheses, such as dentures and bridges. A dental implant looks like (and in many ways is) a screw. This screw, made from surgical titanium, is implanted into the jaw and fitted with an artificial tooth. It is then, for all intents and purposes, a perfectly normal tooth.

Dental implants offer a distinct advantage over dentures – no popping out or 'flapping'. They are also preferable to bridges in that no destructive dental work of healthy teeth is required to create an 'anchor'. A dental implant will look, feel and can be treated just like a natural tooth.

You can have any number of dental implants fitted, from one to 'an entire mouthful'.

As well as offering a distinct aesthetic advantage, dental implants can also be used to create an anchor for bridges or dentures where the absence of particular teeth is creating a problem.

The Disadvantage of Dental Implants

If there are any disadvantages to dental implants, it is that they are generally unsuitable for anyone under the age of eighteen (as the jaw and teeth are still developing), and the cost can be a little prohibitive. For a single dental implant, you're probably looking at a budget in the region of £1,500. However, with our Dental Care Plan, you may be able to benefit from a discount and easy-payment options. Our Dental Care Plan offers a host of other great benefits, too, so it's well worth taking a look at. As dental implants are unique to every individual, it is advisable to speak to one of the experienced dental implants specialists at our Liverpool dental surgery to discuss your particular requirements.
